Warden JP and his father Paul of the Westlock Whitetails went on a JFW geocaching trip this past winter and collected a couple of unopened Jack Pine cones. When they got home, they opened the cones with a light bulb under a tin foil tent on the kitchen counter (approximate time 4-6 hours). Then, they stratified the seeds on a wet paper towel in a Tupperware container in the fridge for 8 weeks and seeded them indoors at the beginning of April.
The pictures below show the 33 cute little Jack Pine that sprouted! There are a few Silver Willow mixed in there from a bush near Red Deer. See if you can spot them.
